Siliguri, 17th May: Residents of Siliguri are grappling with the rising temperatures prompting a surge in the consumption of coconut water. As a result, vendors have doubled the prices of tender coconuts this summer.
According to reports, people are relying on cold beverages due to the extreme weather conditions, with health-conscious individuals opting for fruit juices and bottled water. Consequently, the demand for beverages has experienced a significant price hike, with coconut water being sold at prices ranging from 70 to 90 rupees per serving. Despite the price hike, consumers are seen lining up in front of coconut shops on SF Road to purchase tender coconuts.
Additionally, consumers have highlighted purchasing bottled water despite the rise in prices. Meanwhile, the vendors have expressed that the price hike was a result of the extreme weather conditions as the coconuts were being transported from Jalpaiguri, Nagrakata, and Maynaguri. Further, they anticipate a decline in demand of coconut water with the onset of the monsoon season.
