Siliguri, 16th July: Starting today, a total lockdown has been imposed across entire Siliguri for 07 days as a containment measure. All offices have been shut down excluding emergency services.
Although the administration has urged all the citizens to stay indoors, several people are still being sighted on the streets, deliberately ignoring the lockdown in Siliguri. To tackle this, strict surveillance is being kept by the police since this morning.
A similar situation was observed in the city when a complete lockdown was enforced across the entire country for the first time.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the region is increasing at an alarming rate. Concerned by the situation, several citizens wanted the administration to put Siliguri under total lockdown once again to prevent the spread of the virus.
While the highest number of positive cases have been reported in Siliguri on Wednesday, the effectiveness of this lockdown remains a question as maximum people fail to understand the gravity of the present situation.
