Siliguri set to bid farewell to traffic congestion as state government initiates jam-free city plan

Siliguri, 30th May: The residents of Siliguri can look forward to a solution for their longstanding traffic congestion woes as the state government has taken decisive action to make the city jam-free. One particular area, the junction at Darjeeling More, is expected to witness a significant reduction in traffic jams. Additionally, the construction of a new bus stand in the city is underway, providing further relief to the residents.

Although the announcement was made some time ago, the state government has now prioritized the completion of the project. The new bus stand, situated near Tinbatti More in Siliguri, is being built at a substantial cost, utilizing the land previously owned by the NBSTC (North Bengal State Transport Corporation). This development will alleviate the burden on the Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus.

Notably, the junction sees heavy traffic congestion due to long-distance buses traveling to Bihar, Jharkhand, Kolkata, and Assam. This project will redirect buses departing from Parivahan Nagar, reducing traffic congestion in the area. State Transport Minister Snehasish Chakraborty and Mayor Goutam Deb discussed these matters during a meeting at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, with the presence of NBSTC Chairman Partha Pratim Roy and Transport Department officials.

During the meeting, the Transport Minister highlighted the plans in place to transform Siliguri into a jam-free city. On Wednesday, NBSTC officials, along with the chairman, will visit Tinbatti More to assess the progress of the bus stand construction. Mayor Goutam Deb will also be present for the inspection. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish an international standard bus stand near Matigara, and efforts are being made to enhance the PC Mittal bus stand.
