Siliguri, 06th September: The sentencing of Mohammad Abbas, the accused in the rape and murder of a minor schoolgirl in Matigara, Siliguri, has been postponed once again.
It is to be noted that the incident occurred on August 21, 2023, when the young girl was lured to a secluded area in Matigara, where she was raped and brutally murdered.
Mohammad Abbas was arrested by Matigara police on the night of the crime, and the case has been under trial since January. The judge convicted Abbas on Wednesday, with the sentencing initially scheduled for today. However, despite high public anticipation, the sentence was not delivered.
On Friday, the public prosecutor urged the court to impose the death penalty on Abbas. The final verdict has now been deferred to Saturday.
