Siliguri, 12th November: A school bus driver was arrested for drunk driving after an accident in which school children narrowly escaped injury. The driver, identified as Gurpal Singh (50) from Jyoti Nagar, Ward No. 41, was arrested by the NJP police station.
It is to be noted that the accident took place on Monday at the Fulbari bypass traffic point, where vehicles were halted at a traffic light. The bus, moving uncontrollably from behind, struck two vehicles, injuring two individuals. The collision also caused a traffic jam in the area.
The Fulbari bypass traffic police quickly responded to the scene. Meanwhile, all children aboard the bus were safely transferred to another vehicle and taken home. After taking possession of the damaged vehicles, the driver underwent a medical examination, which revealed he was drunk. Following this, Gurpal Singh was arrested.
On Tuesday, the accused driver was presented in the Jalpaiguri court, and the police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
