Siliguri Regulated Market’s fruits and vegetable section resumes business today

Siliguri, 24th July: The vegetable and fruit section of Siliguri Regulated Market resumed business today, after being closed for the past several days. However, the fish market is still closed.

Reportedly, after holding a meeting with the task force officials on Tuesday, it was decided to reopen the market from July 23. However, due to a complete lockdown across the state, the market remained shut yesterday.

The administration has clearly instructed the market authority to conduct trade while maintaining social distance and following the administrative guidelines, failing which legal action will be taken. Crowds of people were seen in the market since this morning.

It is to be noted that since tomorrow marks the second day of Bengal’s ‘2-days a week’ lockdown, the regulated market will remain closed.

Shiv Kumar, Secretary of the Vegetable and Fruit Market Association, stated that he highly supports the decision taken by the administration. However, the traders are facing deep losses due to the lockdown. He further mentioned that the market employees have been instructed to work in accordance with the administrative guidelines.
