Siliguri, 27th January: The Railway Department of Siliguri carried out a demolition drive at Railway Hospital More and adjoining area against illegal encroachment on railway land adjacent to the NJP police station. Railway Department along with its security force RPF (Railway Protection Force) carried out the drive on Monday.
Makeshift stalls were reportedly demolished due to which the traders expressed an outrage. Several business people, including Haripada Ghosh, complained that no prior information regarding the eviction and demolition was provided to them. Alleging the Railway Department of being biased, the traders stated that no actions were taken against the permanent shop owners and residences which are also built on railway lands.
