Siliguri police launch bicycle patrolling to curb crime during Durga Puja

Siliguri, 05th October: In a commendable move to bolster the city’s security during Durga Puja, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have introduced bicycle patrolling. This initiative is aimed at reducing criminal activities like theft and snatching, which often spike during the festive season.

To keep such incidents in check, police officers will now patrol the city on bicycles, especially during the night. On Friday night, Siliguri Police Station’s IC, Prasanjit Biswas, along with his crime wing team, was seen conducting bicycle patrols in various areas under their jurisdiction.

The team inspected several locations, including the Siliguri District Hospital, to assess the security arrangements. Additionally, the patrol covered areas like Baghajatin Park, Court More, Mahabirsthan, and the Railway Gate.

The police administration has emphasized that this bicycle patrolling is intended to control both criminals and criminal incidents during the festive season. The initiative will primarily focus on night patrolling and will continue beyond the festival period as well.
