Siliguri police gear up for New Year, over 1,500 police personnel to be deployed for city-wide security

Siliguri, 31st December: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has made extensive preparations for the New Year, with over 1,500 police personnel to be deployed across the city on 31st December and 1st January to ensure tight security. Under the leadership of the Police Commissioner, coordination meetings were held with officers from all police stations to strengthen safety arrangements and other necessary preparations, effectively turning the city into a security fortress for the celebrations.


Special attention has been given to areas known for picnics and gatherings, including Bagdogra, Matigara, Pradhan Nagar, Bhakti Nagar, Ambari, and Bhorer Alo police stations.

DCP Tanmay Sarkar of Siliguri Metropolitan Police Headquarters stated that, as in previous years, strong security measures have been put in place for the New Year. In addition to the deployment of over 1,500 police personnel, the city will be monitored through Quick Response Teams (QRT), mobile patrolling, special women’s units, Pink Patrolling Vans with over 100 female officers, and the intelligence department in plain clothes.


Traffic police will remain on duty throughout the night to prevent accidents, and strict action will be taken against violations such as driving under the influence of alcohol or without a helmet. License holders have been urged to keep breath analyzer machines in bars. Residents have also been instructed to contact police immediately in case of any disturbances or emergencies.
