Siliguri, 21st August: Cops of Bhakti Nagar Police Station has achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending the mastermind behind a high-stakes drug trafficking operation worth Rs 10 crore in Siliguri. The arrested individual, identified as Mary Sona, was taken into custody from an area near Salugara in Siliguri.
It has to be noted that on August 16, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Bhakti Nagar police station personnel launched a joint operation near Eastern Bypass petrol pump. During this, a pick-up van en route from Malda to Siliguri was intercepted, resulting in the arrest of Rashid Sheikh, Durga Soren, and Pradeep Munda. The trio was found in possession of 4 kg 812 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 10 crore. Rashid Sheikh hails from Malda, while Durga Soren and Pradeep Munda are residents of Kharibari.
Following interrogations led the police to uncover that Mary Sona directed the trafficking activities. Mary’s arrest on Sunday marked a pivotal development in the investigation. It was revealed that Mary was the mastermind orchestrating major drug trafficking operations across Naxalbari, Kharibari, and Panitanki regions. Apparently, she sourced the seized drugs from Malda and dispatched Durga Soren and Pradeep Munda to receive the consignment. Notably, Mary had faced similar charges in the past, resulting in her arrest by Naxalbari Police. After securing bail, she momentarily distanced herself from the illicit trade. However, her re-entry into the drug business culminated in her recent arrest. On Monday, the accused Mary Sona was presented before the Jalpaiguri Court.
