Siliguri, 18th September: The Siliguri Municipal Workers Congress, on Friday, staged a protest in support of 11-point demands including illegal recruitment of temporary workers, pay inequality and pay hike.
Reportedly, the demonstration programme was held under the leadership of the organization general secretary Soumen Das Roy. The members of the organization staged the protest in front of the office of the municipality administrator, Ashok Bhattacharya. Besides, an 11-point memorandum was submitted to him.
Soumen Das Roy stated that amid the ongoing pandemic, the municipality workers are constantly working on the frontline risking their own lives. He alleged that although the municipality workers were assured of being provided with incentive allowance, no such initiatives have been taken so far.
He further said that all the issues were reported to Bhattacharya in writing. He warned of staging continuous demonstrations if their demands are not met within the next 7 days.
