Siliguri, 18th August: Recognizing the need for effective regulation of Toto movement within the city, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has undertaken on a proactive initiative. Mayor Goutam Deb led a pivotal meeting today, engaging officials from the Police Department and the Transport Department at SMC. The focus of the meeting was on devising strategies to manage Toto operations, especially concerning unregistered vehicles, and defining appropriate courses of action.
One of the central topics discussed during the meeting was the formulation of measures to rein in the rapidly increasing Toto population navigating the city’s streets. Currently around 20,000 Totos operate within Siliguri. The issue further extends to the haphazard placement of Toto stands across the city, contributing to traffic congestion and disorder. Moreover, the sight of Totos traversing national highways has prompted additional concerns regarding road safety and vehicular regulation.
To address these pressing matters comprehensively, Mayor Goutam Deb emphasized the forthcoming introduction of a specialized guideline dedicated to managing Toto activities. The guideline will encompass a wide range of topics, including controlling Toto numbers, tackling unregistered Totos, mapping out Toto routes, and addressing their presence on major roadways.
