Siliguri, 27th December: Residents of various areas of Siliguri city are facing water shortage and drinking water problems. Furthermore, the tap water supply gets discontinued within a short span of time.
After water supply was allegedly suspended for two days in many wards, the residents of the area expressed anger and despair. Former Mayor and Left leader Ashok Bhattacharya blamed the SMC for the water crisis in the city. He alleged SMC of not taking any steps during such a crisis. He even advised people of the city to protest on the road regarding this.
At the same time, Dulal Dutta, MMIC Water Supply, said that the problem is not a new one and has been there since the period of CPI(M)’s rule. He further stated that the issue will be resolved at the earliest. He also said that a new drinking water project worth Rs 511 crore in Gajoldoba is going to start very soon. Once completed, a permanent solution to the water issue of the city residents would be possible.
