Siliguri, 19th May: In an effort to promote chess and provide opportunities for aspiring chess players, Mayor Goutam Deb and Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, President of the All Bengal Chess Association, convened a meeting at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, today. The agenda of the meeting centred around establishing a chess academy in Siliguri. The Mayor, along with Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, engaged in discussions with Barua and sports committee members at the assembly hall of the SMC.
During the meeting, the attendees explored the possibilities and logistics of setting up a dedicated Chess Academy in Siliguri. Dibyendu Barua highlighted the abundance of chess facilities and opportunities available in the Kolkata region. Recognizing the potential in Siliguri, Barua had previously initiated talks with the Mayor regarding the establishment of an academy. With the Mayor’s agreement, the search for a suitable location for the academy has commenced.
