Siliguri, 21st February: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) marked International Mother Language Day with due dignity at Baghajatin Park. Mayor Gautam Deb, along with other officials, paid tribute by placing flowers at the Shaheed Bedi.
The day was observed across various parts of West Bengal, with the SMC organizing special programs to honour the occasion. A Shaheed Bedi was constructed by the Municipal Corporation in memory of the martyrs who fought for the rights of the Bengali language.
Mayor Gautam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, MMICs, and other officials of the SMC gathered at Baghajatin Park to pay their respects. The event also featured cultural programs, where eminent personalities emphasized the significance of the day.
