Siliguri, 04th July: Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to implement a new system to address the irregularities in parking fee collection across various locations in Siliguri. The corporation will exclusively collect parking fees through point-of-sale (POS) machines, aiming to eliminate the inconsistencies that have been reported.
Numerous complaints have been lodged regarding the discrepancies in parking fees in Siliguri. Some areas were found to charge additional fees after the initial payment, while in other places, no parking receipts were provided. To rectify this issue, SMC has opted for a digital payment solution, wherein parking fees will be collected through POS machines, along with the issuance of parking slips.
On Tuesday, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar Rana and Mayor of the Parking Department Rajesh Prasad Shah held discussions with various agencies within SMC regarding the implementation of this digitalized procedure. As part of the new system, two-colour printed parking slips will be issued, with a fee of Rs. 5 for two-wheelers and Rs. 10 for four-wheelers. Notably, the parking slips will also indicate the duration of the parked vehicles.
In reference to the initiative, the Deputy Mayor acknowledged the numerous complaints received regarding parking fees and emphasized that the involved agencies have been given specific directives. The process of collecting parking fees through POS machines is expected to commence in the near future.
