Siliguri, 10th February: To make public services more efficient, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Wednesday launched several new facilities for the city. Mayor Gautam Deb inaugurated bio-toilet vehicles, recovery vans, a hydraulic ladder vehicle and two ambulances by flagging them off.
Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, MMIC members Dulal Dutta, Manik Dey and Kamal Agarwal, along with several councillors, were present at the programme. The keys and necessary documents of the ambulances were formally handed over to the councillors of Wards 6 and 7.
From Tuesday, solar-powered bio-toilet vehicles have started operating on city roads. Equipped with separate chambers for men and women, the mobile bio-toilets are expected to provide major convenience to residents.
Addressing the programme, Mayor Gautam Deb said the main objective of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation is to further improve public services through the introduction of required vehicles and modern infrastructure.
