Siliguri Municipal Corporation gears up to tackle drinking water crisis

Siliguri, 11th November: To make sure there is enough water in every household, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation is gearing up to launch a mega project to solve the drinking water crisis in the city. For this, a survey has also started. Mayor Goutam Deb held a meeting with the officials of the Public Health Technical Department, Irrigation Department and Forest Department in SMC on Friday.

As per the report, Siliguri receives only 55 MLD of water, while it currently needs 77 MLD of water. Due to this, a large number of the residents are being forced to live amid a severe water crisis. Meanwhile, with the growing population, the shortage of water is also increasing day by day. In view of this, the SMC has started brainstorming on a mega-project that will apparently start in Gajoldoba and the water will be brought to Siliguri via Fulbari through pipelines.
