Siliguri, 15th February: Siliguri’s footpath and roads are no new to problems like encroachment. The problem has been existing for a very long time. On Wednesday, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation intensified its campaign against such encroachment. Today, in the presence of the police, the Municipal Corporation officials launched a campaign to remove illegal encroachments from Hospital More and Kachari Road in Siliguri.
Several shops have been constructed in front of the Siliguri District Hospital. Pedestrians face numerous problems passing through the footpaths. Before this, the shops were removed from the said area, but again the people have encroached and set up their shops. On the other hand, during the meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (Patient Welfare Committee) a few days ago, Mayor Goutam Deb had expressed concern regarding the said issue.
Today the corporation removed the shops from the front of the hospital during the campaign. Along with this, several illegally occupied shops were demolished, and encroachment has been made free by removing illegal shops on both sides of the road in Kachari Road. On the other hand, the hawkers expressed displeasure and created a fury over this.
