Siliguri Municipal Corporation and SJDA officials hold joint meeting to discuss development projects in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th November: Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority are taking initiatives for the development of Siliguri. A meeting was held in this regard today at the SJDA office. During this, Municipal Corporation Mayor Goutam Deb, SJDA Chairman Saurabh Chakraborty, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Municipal Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi, Darjeeling District Magistrate S Ponnambalam and other officers were present. 


The overall development of Siliguri was mainly discussed between the two boards in the meeting. The SMC and SJDA are determined to work together to solve various problems of the city. Special emphasis has been laid on drainage and road works. Also, steps will be taken to solve the problem of transport and traffic congestion. Presently SJDA is working on 20 projects in Siliguri. So far, projects worth Rs 5.5 crore have been completed. 

In today’s meeting, a project worth Rs 7 crore has been proposed by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. This will include the installation of state-of-the-art CCTV cameras for the security of the city, and the construction of at least three modern parking lots to solve the traffic problem. Land has also been specified for parking and will soon be inspected by a team of SJDA and SMC officials. Along with this, a bus terminus will be constructed in Matigara. A parking lot will also be built at Noukaghat for buses going to Jalpaiguri.
