Siliguri Metropolitan Police initiates “Pre-Drive Campaign” ahead of Holi, two arrested

Siliguri, 01st March: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has started a pre-drive campaign to crack down on illegal liquor traders in view of Holi. Under this, on Tuesday night the police of Matigara police station arrested two people by launching a campaign on a hotel on a tip-off. The arrested accused have been identified as Sunny Karki Chhetri and Raghu Nath Das.


 

Reportedly, the police of Matigara police station received a tip-off that liquor is being served illegally in a restaurant and a shop under the police station. Acting on a tip-off, the white-dressed police of Matigara police station carried out a campaign and recovered a huge quantity of domestic and foreign liquor from the said restaurant and shop. At the same time, both the accused were arrested on the charges of selling liquor illegally. Today both the arrested accused have been produced in the Siliguri court.


 

On the other hand, ACP Ashish P Subba, West Zone of Siliguri Metropolitan Police said that the pre-drive campaign has been started in view of Holi. Stern action will be taken against those who buy and sell liquor illegally during the pre-drive. Two people have already arrested under this campaign last night. He further added that on the day of Holi, police picketing will be done at various places to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. Along with this, the traffic department is also running a drink-and-drive campaign so that no accidents happen during the festival of Holi.
