Siliguri, 30 November: On Thursday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb held a meeting with businessmen of Hawkers Corner and Nivedita Market regarding unauthorized construction. The meeting also witnessed the presence of Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, and MMICs.
It has to be be noted that, two days ago, the Municipal Corporation employees faced obstacles while demolishing illegal construction at a shop in Hawkers Corner. In this regard, the businessmen had also warned of agitation. In response, a meeting has been called for on this day.
According to reports, the meeting lasted for about an hour. In the meeting, the Mayor clarified the businessmen that they cannot indulge in unauthorized construction and prior permission has to be taken from the Municipal Corporation. Regarding a tin warehouse over some shops at Hawkers Corner, the Mayor demanded to reduce the height.
Meanwhile, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are stated to visit Nivedita Market and Hawkers Corner in a few days. After the meeting, the business persons could be seen satisfied following discussions with the Municipal Corporation.
