Siliguri, 13th January: Mayor Gautam Deb visited the family of a minor who died in a road accident two days ago in Rajendra Nagar, Ward No. 01, Siliguri, offering condolences and support during their time of grief. The child had tragically lost their life after being hit by a dumper, sending shockwaves across the local community.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Deb said that the movement of heavy vehicles, especially dumpers, in the heart of the city is unacceptable as it puts the lives of residents, particularly children, at serious risk.
He announced that a crucial meeting has been convened at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, which will include police officials, to address the issue. The meeting will set strict rules and time restrictions for the entry and movement of dumpers and other heavy vehicles in the city. Routes and permissible timings will be clearly defined to prevent similar accidents in the future.
