Siliguri Mayor and MLA visit family of youth who passed away from dengue

Siliguri, 09th November: Siliguri MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shankar Ghosh and Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor Goutam Deb met the family of the deceased resident of SMC’s Ward No. 23, named Bappa Roy, who lost his life due to dengue.


It has to be noted that Bappa was admitted to a private hospital in Siliguri, on Monday, due to several ailments including fever. He later passed away on Tuesday morning after being brought to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). The family members disclosed that Bappa’s platelet count had drastically dropped after suffering from a fever resulting in his death.

As per reports, the SMC launched a cleanliness drive in the entire area following the incident. In addition, a door-to-door survey by health workers was also conducted. On Thursday, Mayor Goutam Deb visited the house of the deceased and extended condolences after speaking to the family members of the deceased. Speaking to the media, the Mayor termed the incident to be tragic. He added that the SMC is engaged in its responsibilities of maintaining cleanliness and raising awareness regarding health.


On the other hand, Siliguri MLA and BJP leader Shankar Ghosh also arrived at the residence of the deceased and met the family members. During this, the MLA stated that the SMC has to be more cautious in dealing with dengue in the circumstance of a tragic death related to dengue. He added cleanliness should be the priority in dengue-prone areas.
