Siliguri man loses Rs 89,000 in online fraud, investigation underway

Siliguri, 28th September: An incident of cyber fraud surfaced in Siliguri where a man named Amlan Jyoti Sarkar, a resident of Bhakti Nagar Check post, was duped for Rs 89,000. Questionably, the money was debited from his bank account, however, he did not receive any OTP.


According to reports, Amlan had deposited Rs 89,000 in his bank account for his father’s treatment. Simultaneously, he booked the train tickets and was scheduled to go to Bengaluru on October 1. However, prior to this, he allegedly lost the saved money.

In this regard, Amlan stated that he received a phone call from a number on Wednesday evening. The call allegedly directed to ‘Press 1’ to confirm the transaction or ‘9’ to cancel. He added that he chose the latter option to cancel the transaction. Later, to his surprise, he noticed that Rs 89,000 was debited from his bank account without receiving any OTP. Following this, he approached that bank where he allegedly did not receive any help.


Subsequently, Amlan Jyoti Sarkar filed a written complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station. At present, the matter is under further investigation.
