Siliguri, 07th February: Sensation prevailed after a person was crushed to death under the wheels of a cement-laden truck near Bhabesh more, this morning. The deceased has been identified as Joy Sarkar, a resident of the Tikiapara area.
According to local sources, Joy was on his way to a picnic and the tragic incident occurred when he was crossing the road near the said area.
The agitated locals then staged a road blockade alleging that accidents have become frequent in that area. Later, the NJP police reached the spot and handled the situation. The body was recovered and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, the police detained the truck at the Eastern Bypass area and took it to the police station. However, the driver and conductor are absconding since the incident.
