Siliguri, 06th June: Due to the decreasing number of COVID cases, the Siliguri Luxury Divers Union decided to reduce the number of vehicles that are used to provide ambulance services.
It is to be noted that the association, so far, had been taking patients to hospitals and nursing homes in luxury cars free of cost. The number of positive cases has been decreasing in the last few days. Hence, where previously 18 cars used to provide free service, now it has been reduced to 6 vehicles.
Alok Chakraborty, a member of the BoA at SMC, held a press conference at Sramik Bhaban on Sunday. He said the way the drivers came forward to help the citizens is commendable. ‘However, we are also relieved as the number of patients is decreasing. Hence, the number of cars has been reduced. If the number of patients increases again, more vehicles will be added.’
