Siliguri, 11th December: A unique awareness programme was organized by the Junction Traffic Guard of Siliguri Metropolitan Police to reduce road accidents. Under this programme, people were made aware of the importance of wearing seat belts while driving four-wheelers and wearing helmets by both the rider and pillion rider while riding a scooter or motorbike. During this, a tableau was also taken out under the ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ motto.
Like every year, this year also the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have been organizing numerous programmes under the ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ initiative in Siliguri from 1st December to 31st January. Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma inaugurated the programme today.
Addressing the media after the inauguration, the Siliguri Police Commissioner said that according to a report in 2016, 6 lakh people were killed in road accidents. While, in every 22 to 25 minutes, one person is killed in a road accident all over the world.
“This makes road safety a major concern. Therefore, to make ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ successful and reduce road accidents, common people must be made aware. Only then will this campaign be a complete success,” the Commissioner added.
