Siliguri, 27th October: The modernisation of Siliguri Junction Railway Station is targeted for completion by December 2026, while the upgrade of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station is scheduled to be completed by March 2027. Katihar Railway Division DRM Kirendra Narah reviewed the progress of development work at Siliguri Junction during an inspection on Tuesday and shared updates on ongoing railway projects.
The DRM said Siliguri Junction is being upgraded with modern facilities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The booking counter located outside the station has already been shifted to a new building inside the premises. Other development work, including infrastructure improvements, is also underway.
Once the modernisation is complete, passengers will have access to several upgraded facilities, including lifts. The DRM stated that action would be taken against the construction agency if the NJP railway station modernisation work is not completed within the stipulated deadline of March 2027.
Development work at Siliguri Town Railway Station had been temporarily suspended due to Durga Puja. Following a fresh inspection, efforts will be made to resume the work soon.
The DRM also provided an update on the proposed double-line railway project in Siliguri. He said efforts are underway to initiate the project at the earliest. Forms A and B have already been submitted, although the process faced some delays due to Durga Puja. The railway division now plans to move the project forward.
