Siliguri, 08th April: A shocking incident surfaced where a girl from Siliguri has been duped of lakhs of rupees on a matrimony site. The girl is stated to be a resident of Hakim Para under Ward No. 15 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
According to the police complaint, on May 8 last year, a young man named Raktim Das had messaged the said girl on a matrimonial site. Following this, they had been engaged in a conversation, however they never met in person.
The casual conversation gradually transformed into love. After a few months, citing his father’s illness, the young man first asked for Rs 7 thousand from the girl and again requested for Rs 17 thousand after a few days.
On December last year, Raktim gathered details of the girl’s Aadhar card, PAN card along with her e-mail ID and internet banking and generated a credit card. Through the credit card, Raktim Das allegedly took a loan of Rs 7 lakh from the girl’s bank account and transferred it to his bank account, without the girl’s knowledge.
Later, in the month of April this year, Raktim Das had urged the girl to file her IT and asked for further information. This made the girl suspicious and refused to provide the IT file. Later, as the girl demanded the money from Raktim, he switched off his phone and stopped conversing with her. Subsequently, as the girl approached the bank, she learned that a loan of Rs 7 lakh was taken from the credit card registered in her name, which baffled her. Further, she learned that the money was transferred into the account of Radha Shyam Das.
Sources revealed that, a person named Radha Shyam Das has created a fake account on the site in the name of Raktim Das and allegedly cheated the girl of Rs 7 lakh over a love trap. After the incident, the girl lodged a complaint at the cyber crime police station on April 6. Based on the complaint, the cyber team of Siliguri Metropolitan Police has initiated an investigation into the entire matter. The complainant was contacted over the phone, however she refrained from stating anything on camera.
