Siliguri District Hospital under fire after patient’s death due to delayed admission

Siliguri, 24th September: Tension erupted at Siliguri District Hospital after a 76-year-old patient, Nihara Bala Das, reportedly died due to alleged negligence by the hospital management.

According to reports, Das was transported to the hospital earlier on Tuesday morning from Siliguri’s Ward No. 17. Initially taken to the emergency department, she was advised to consult an outpatient doctor. The doctor recommended her admission following a consultation. However, family members claimed that the management delayed her admission for approximately one and a half hours. Later, the elderly woman passed away due to the prolonged time before her admission.

The family has accused the hospital management of negligence, asserting that their delays caused the patient’s death. They have filed a complaint with the hospital superintendent. Hospital superintendent Chandan Ghosh confirmed receiving a verbal complaint and stated that an investigation team has been formed to look into the matter. He assured that a report will clarify the situation once it is completed.
