Siliguri Cyber Crime team recovers ₹13 Lakh from online fraudsters

Siliguri, 06th October: In a significant operation, the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station has successfully recovered ₹13 lakh that was defrauded by a local woman.


On September 21, the victim, a woman from Hakimpara under Ward No. 17 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, reported the incident. She received a distressing call from someone posing as an officer from the Mumbai Andheri Police Station. The caller falsely informed her that her mobile SIM card and Aadhar card were involved in illegal activities and that an accomplice had been arrested.

In response to the threat, the woman complied with the caller’s demands and transferred ₹13 lakh to avoid arrest. Later, upon discussing the matter with her son the woman realized that she had been defrauded. Subsequently, the victim promptly reported the incident to the cybercrime police.


Following a thorough investigation, the Siliguri Cyber Crime team managed to trace and recover the defrauded amount within 15 days. On Sunday, the team handed the recovered funds back to the relieved victim, who expressed her immense gratitude to the cybercrime unit for their prompt and efficient response.
