Siliguri commemorates 113th birth anniversary of revolutionary Dinesh Chandra Gupta

Siliguri, 06th December: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation marked the 113th birth anniversary of renowned revolutionary Dinesh Chandra Gupta with great reverence and dignity.


Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb paid homage by placing wreaths at the statue of Dinesh Chandra Gupta at Jalpai More in Siliguri on Friday. Borough Chairman Jayanta Saha and several others were also present during the ceremony.

Dinesh Chandra Gupta was a prominent Bengali revolutionary and an active participant in the Indian independence movement. He was instrumental in forming revolutionary organizations in Dhaka and Midnapore.


Alongside Badal Gupta and under the leadership of Binoy Bose, Dinesh Chandra Gupta carried out the historic Writers’ Building abhiyan in Kolkata. He was later sentenced to death and hanged following a trial.
