Siliguri, 06th May: Ashok Bhattacharya, the former mayor of Siliguri, expressed displeasure over the decision of appointing Goutam Deb as the administrator of Siliguri. The newly appointed MLA of Siliguri Shankar Ghosh has also questioned the decision of the state government.
It is to recall, the state government, on Thursday, issued a notification appointing Goutam Deb as the Chairman of the Board of Administrators. Following which, Ashok Bhattacharya alleged that there are different laws for the opposition and the ruling party in the state.
It is to be noted, former mayor Firhad Hakim was appointed as Chairman of Board of Administrators of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation as civic elections in West Bengal has been postponed due to COVID-19. However, the allotment of seats at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation painted a different picture after TMC leader Goutam Deb was appointed as the new administrator of Siliguri, succeeding former mayor and existing BoA Chairman Ashok Bhattacharya.
“Rules should be the same for all. I lost the election. I do not even want to be an administrator. Whatever happened in Kolkata should have happened here too. I should have been informed earlier before taking such decisions,” Bhattacharya charged.
Meanhwile, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh said that the state government has appointed an administrator as per their choice which is ‘extremely unfortunate’. “The people of the city will decide how accurate this decision is,” Ghosh added.
