Rajganj, 25th January: The Sahudangi Shaheed Bedi Committee observed ‘Shaheed Diwas’ in the memory of Jagdish Chandra Roy and Gajan Roy who were martyred while agitating for Kamtapuri state and language.
Reportedly, on Thursday, the Martyrs’ Day (Shaheed Diwas) was observed by laying wreaths at the Shaheed Bedi located at Sahudangi More and Jagdish Colony in Rajganj block.
It has to be noted that on January 25, 1987, a ‘Rail Roko’ campaign was organized at Altagram railway station to demand Kamtapuri statehood and language. During this, the protestors were fired upon which resulted in the death of Jagdish Chandra Roy of Sahudangi and Gajan Roy of Dhupguri. Since then, Martyrs’ Day is observed every year on 25 January.
