Siliguri, 13th March: Family members and neighbours of the deceased staged a protest outside the Siliguri court on Friday demanding strict punishment for accused Debangshu Pal Chowdhury, who was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run case on Sevoke Road.
It may be noted that a few days ago, Shankar Chhetri, a resident of Panitanki, died after being hit by a car on Sevoke Road. A girl was also injured in the same incident.
Following the incident, police arrested Debangshu Pal Chowdhury. The court had earlier sent the accused to police custody and later to judicial custody. The protest was held before the accused was produced in court again on Friday.
Family members of the deceased along with neighbours demonstrated outside the court carrying photographs of the accused and raised slogans demanding strict punishment.
Police personnel were deployed in the court premises since morning to maintain law and order during the protest.
