Siliguri, 02nd June: 8-9 shops were burnt to ashes in a catastrophic fire in the Siliguri Mahabirsthan area early morning today.
It has been primarily assumed that the fire broke out initially in the book shop and the blaze eventually spread to the other shops. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Upon receiving the news, several fire engines reached the spot and extinguished the fire after hours of effort.
Ward no-27 co-ordinator Prashanta Chakraborty stated that several shops were burnt and valuables worth lakhs were destroyed in the incident. Administrative member Shankar Ghosh inspected the spot today.
