Rajganj, 09th September: Five youths have been charged with the abduction and gang-rape of two minors at Nabagram area under Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat in Rajganj.
Several CPI(M) and BJP leaders including former CPI(M) MP Mahendra Kumar Roy, Jalpaiguri district secretary Shaleel Acharya, other block leaders, BJP Jalpaiguri District Yuva Morcha President Polen Ghosh, and other local leaders visited the houses of the victims today.
In this regard, Shaleel Acharya stated that they demand strict punishment for the culprits.
On the other hand, BJP’s Jalpaiguri District Yuva Morcha president Polen Ghosh stated that they want the culprits to be punished soon and alleged police negligence in this regard.
It is to be noted that the two sisters were returning home from their uncle’s house on Friday, during which they were abducted by five youths and gang-raped in a nearby tea garden.
Reportedly, the duo returned home on Saturday and went missing again. Although they returned home, both fell sick the following day. As their condition deteriorated, they were rushed to North Bengal Medical College Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, one of the two sisters lost her life on Monday and the other is currently undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the Rajganj police have arrested the three youths and have taken them into 7-day remand. However, the other two have been absconding since the incident.
