Siliguri, 11th January: Plainclothes personnel of the Pradhan Nagar police station under Siliguri Metropolitan Police recovered seven stolen mobile phones, including five iPhones worth nearly Rs 10 lakh, and arrested two habitual thieves in connection with the case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Raju, a resident of Netaji Nagar under Bhakti Nagar police station, and Rahul Kumar Ojha, a resident of South Ambedkar Colony.
According to Pradhan Nagar police station IC Basudev Sarkar, a case was registered on 30th May 2025 following the theft of five iPhones and two branded Android mobile phones from a hostel in the Pintail Village area.
Subsequently, another case involving the theft of mobile phones and other valuables was registered on 28th July 2025.
During the investigation of both cases, police arrested Mohammad Raju on 29th December 2025 from a rented house in the Chanchal area of Malda district. Police said that after committing the thefts, he had been staying in Malda with his family.
During interrogation, the involvement of his associate Rahul Kumar Ojha came to light, leading to his arrest on 31st December 2025.
Acting on the accused persons’ disclosure, police recovered a total of seven stolen mobile phones.
Both accused were produced before the Siliguri court on Sunday. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
