Security boost at NBMCH: High-security doors, CCTV cameras, and increased patrols

Siliguri, 29th October: Security measures at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) are set for a major upgrade with the installation of state-of-the-art security doors and additional CCTV cameras.

The move comes in response to calls for heightened safety in government medical facilities after incidents like the recent R.G. Kar Medical College protest, which saw junior doctors demanding better security across hospitals statewide. The Supreme Court has also instructed the state government to enhance security in medical institutions.

As part of this initiative, 28 high-security doors will be installed in doctors’ rest rooms across various departments at NBMCH. These doors are equipped with fingerprint scanners, allowing access only to authorized personnel. In addition, 41 new CCTV cameras will be positioned around the premises to monitor activity closely.

Sanjay Mallick, Superintendent of NBMCH, shared that 44 doctors’ rest rooms have been recently renovated, and the first phase of security installations, including the 28 high-security doors, is underway. Additionally, 60 extra security personnel have been deployed, and police patrols around the campus have intensified to ensure comprehensive surveillance.
