Scorching heat troubles Siliguri residents, difficulty in venturing outdoors

Siliguri, 25th May: Residents of Siliguri are grappling with an intense heatwave that has made it challenging to step outside. The relentless sun and rising humidity levels have caused significant discomfort, with people sweating profusely and finding it difficult to leave their homes during the day.

Notably, the entire country is experiencing record-breaking heat this season, and North Bengal is no exception. Although the region’s temperatures have not reached the highest national levels, North Bengal has been experiencing unusually high temperatures for the past few days.

According to the Meteorological Department, Siliguri set a new temperature record on Friday, with the maximum temperature reaching 40.3 degrees Celsius, an unprecedented high for the city. Current temperatures in Siliguri are fluctuating between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, contributing to the sweltering conditions.

Doctors are advising the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using oral rehydration solutions (ORS) to combat the effects of the heat. There is also an ongoing concern about Cyclone Remal in South Bengal, with the Meteorological Department indicating that its effects may extend to North Bengal.

As the heatwave continues, the community is urged to take precautions to stay safe and cool during these extreme weather conditions.
