Siliguri, 02nd December: In a major breakthrough, the Pradhan Nagar police have arrested two members of a scooty gang that had been causing panic in Siliguri.
The gang, which had been involved in several snatching incidents, was also found to be smuggling banned cough syrup. The arrested individuals, identified as Rana Roy and Raj Barman, are residents of Shivram Pally under Bhakti Nagar police station.
According to police sources, the scooty gang had been operating for several days, carrying out snatchings in areas under Pradhan Nagar, Matigara, and Siliguri police stations. The gang primarily targeted women and used a scooty without a number plate to commit the crimes.
During the investigation, the police discovered that apart from snatching, the gang was involved in drug smuggling. On Sunday night, the two accused were seen riding a black scooty from Darjeeling More to the Regulated Market, where they were attempting to smuggle banned cough syrup.
While patrolling, undercover officers from Pradhan Nagar police station spotted the scooty and attempted to stop it. The accused tried to flee, but the police chased them and apprehended them near the Regulated Market. A search of the scooty’s trunk led to the recovery of 60 pieces of banned cough syrup in two bags.
Both Rana Roy and Raj Barman were arrested, and during interrogation, the police confirmed that they were members of the scooty gang. On Monday, the accused were presented in Siliguri court. The police are continuing their investigation and are now searching for the remaining members of the gang.
