Schoolgirls rescued from alleged trafficking attempt in Siliguri

Siliguri, 18th November: A shocking attempted trafficking incident unfolded in Siliguri, where four minor schoolgirls were rescued from the Siliguri Junction area moments before they could be taken out of the state. The accused woman, who lured them with the promise of work, is currently absconding.

According to reports, the woman had picked up three students from Jyotsnamoyee School in Babupara and another from Siliguri Girls’ School directly from outside their school gate. She allegedly tried to take them to another state after convincing them with false job offers.

Suspicion arose when staff at Siliguri Junction railway station noticed the minors while tickets were being purchased. They immediately detained the girls and informed their families.

The minors later told police and relatives that the woman had been interacting with them outside school for several days. On Tuesday, she made them board an e-rickshaw (toto) and took them to the station.

Police have registered a case at Siliguri police station and are examining CCTV footage to trace the accused. The students had left home in their school uniforms but reportedly changed clothes before reaching the station.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over child safety around school premises in the city.
