Siliguri, 22nd August: The Matigara police station successfully apprehended the suspect in the harrowing case involving the brutal killing of a schoolgirl by crushing her head with a brick in Matigara. The accused individual was brought before the Siliguri court today and subsequently remanded into police custody for a period of 10 days.
Meanwhile, when the accused, Mohammad Abbas, was produced in court, the premises witnessed the emergence of protest demonstrations by members of various voluntary organizations. A fierce scene unfolded as an attempt was made to assault the accused within the court premises, triggering an atmosphere of tension. To manage the escalating situation, the Women Police Station, along with a substantial police contingent from Siliguri police station, including the Winners team, swiftly intervened.
Subsequently, as the accused was being escorted to the police station after the hearing, tensions remained palpable within the court premises. As the protesters grew agitated, they resorted to pelting stones at the police, necessitating the deployment of a significant police force to restore order.
The incident unfolded subsequent to the discovery of the blood-soaked body of a girl student in a nearby area adjacent to Khaprail More on Monday evening. Following this finding, the Matigara Police Station, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Intelligence Department, initiated a thorough investigation. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) were onsite at the police station on the night of the incident itself. Scrutinizing the CCTV footage of the Matigara area revealed that the accused youth had been in the company of the girl student. This discovery led to the prompt arrest of Mohammad Abbas on the very night of the incident.
