Siliguri, 10th December: A schoolgirl was allegedly molested while returning home from school, and the accused, identified as Mahendra Swarnakar, has been arrested.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near Bhalobasa More under the NJP police station area. The seventh-grade student was on her way home when the man reportedly dragged her from the middle of the road and attempted to take her into a bushy area.
A local youth witnessed the act and raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush and apprehend the accused. Police arrived at the scene and took Mahendra Swarnakar into custody.
He was produced in the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday.
