Siliguri, 04th July: The driver of a school bus involved in a fatal accident near Court More in Siliguri has been arrested and presented in court. Bablu Chandra Das (66), the accused driver, was taken into custody by Siliguri police and appeared in court on Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the tragic incident occurred when a school bus hit a city auto from behind, causing it to lose control and strike Rakhi Biswas Roy, who was walking on the footpath. Rakhi, a resident of Rabindra Nagar, was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
The accident has left Rakhi’s family in mourning, especially her three-year-old child. Significantly, preparations were underway for housewarming rituals as the family was excited to move into their new home on July 11. Rakhi had gone out shopping with her sister for the upcoming event when the accident occurred.
The police have taken both vehicles involved in the accident into custody and are continuing their search for the city auto driver. The police are currently engaged in further investigations.
School buses in Siliguri are horrible experience. Most buses don’t obey norms stipulated by the Supreme Court. They use high decibel air horns. No check, nothing. Run most time wrongly, overtake from left side (not allowed by traffic rules). I wonder whether most drivers are aware of safe driving traffic rules. Strict monitoring is required to avoid mishaps.
