Scarce passengers on Fulbari-Siliguri route, auto drivers suffer heavy loss

Rajganj, 06th July: As the state along with rest of the nation entered the next phase of lockdown – Unlock 2.0, auto-rickshaws have slowly begun returning to the city streets. Despite this, the city’s auto drivers stare at huge losses as scarce to no passengers are sighted along the Fulbari-Siliguri route.

In a conversation, the drivers said that fearing the fatal coronavirus, lesser and lesser people are coming out of their houses. This has brought down the number of rides drastically.

They added that most of the drivers do not own the vehicles they drive and have to pay a daily rent to its owner. However, these days, auto drivers are unable to earn anything and after bearing the oil expenses out of their little earnings, they return home empty-handed. Amid the lockdown, many auto-rickshaw drivers were sighted selling vegetables and opting other professions.
