Siliguri, 24th January: State secretary of the CPIM party, Mohammed Salim, has made a statement that has raised controversy. Reportedly, Salim commented regarding the verdict of the R.G. Kar case and stated that Sanjay Roy, convicted in the case, could be killed inside jail.
Speaking at the 24th district conference of Darjeeling District CPIM in Siliguri on Friday, Salim raised alarm over Roy’s safety. He mentioned demanding a judicial inquiry into the R.G. Kar incident. Earlier, the Chief Minister expressed regret that Sanjay Roy was not sentenced to death. Although there were suspected plans to kill him in an encounter, now there is a possibility he might be killed in jail.
The event was attended by several prominent CPIM leaders, including former Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya, district secretary Soman Pathak, and coordinator Jibes Sarkar. After the conference, Salim was seen participating in an indigenous dance performance.
