Siliguri, 04th December: A special drive was conducted by the Salugara Traffic Police to make the footpaths encroachment-free at the busy Check Post area of Salugara, one of the most crowded stretches in Siliguri.
The action followed multiple complaints against shopkeepers for illegal constructions and encroachment on footpaths, which had been causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
During the drive, traffic police issued clear instructions to shopkeepers to restrict their businesses within the designated limits. Traders involved in illegal constructions were given a one-day deadline to remove the encroachments on their own.
At the same time, strict action was taken against several shopkeepers who were running their businesses by occupying the footpath, and their goods were seized.
Traffic police officials stated that such special drives will continue in the future to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and to keep public spaces free from illegal occupation.
