Siliguri, 03rd January: The Salbari Traffic Guard on Saturday conducted a special drive against encroachment along National Highway 55 in Siliguri. During the operation, illegal roadside shops occupying roads and footpaths were removed to ease traffic congestion.
According to traffic police officials, shopkeepers had been warned multiple times earlier against carrying out business by encroaching on roads and footpaths. However, as there was no improvement despite repeated warnings, the administration was compelled to take strict action.
Traffic movement was being severely affected in several areas, including the Salbari market stretch from Darjeeling More to Sukna, due to widespread encroachment. Keeping public inconvenience in view, the Salbari Traffic Guard carried out the enforcement drive.
During the operation, goods placed illegally on roads and footpaths were seized, and several vehicles parked unlawfully were also taken into custody. Traffic officials stated that similar anti-encroachment drives will continue in the future to ensure smooth traffic flow.
